Thursday Press #137: we showed up in the SAME shirt
[20 JUN 2024] Week 2: nurturing your subscribers from Pinterest
Showing up to our first date wearing the same shirt might've been the moment I knew she was The One™.
Or maybe it was when we spent 3+ hours on said first date with not an awkward silence to be heard.
Or maybe it was when she planned an entire day trip to the mountains and let me be a passenger princess during the dark, foggy drive home.
One thing's for sure — It definitely wasn't when I ghosted her for weeks after our initial dating app exchange……..
I love a good quirky meet cute. And between the latest season of Bridgerton and finally getting my hands on Emily Henry's new book, I'm fully in romance-land.
So if I were telling the rose-colored-glasses story of how my now-fiancée and I met, of course I would lead with the same-shirt-hours-long first date tale.
But that leaves out the very unswoonworthy fact that I almost missed meeting the love of my life because I ghosted our Tinder convo.
YIKES!!!
Thankfully, Caroline gave my silly-goose-self a second chance by reaching out again — when I happened to be back in an "on" phase of my on-again-off-again cycle with the apps.
This might not be my favorite part of our love story to tell, but it's real!
And it's also a real good reminder that there can be some seriously big consequences to ghosting — of all kinds!
The one we're going to focus on today, though, is ghosting your email list...
This is Week 2 of our current series all about growing your email list with Pinterest. You can catch up with Week 1 here!
How to Nurture New Email Subscribers
Do. Not. Ghost. Your. List.
Joining your email list is the online business equivalent of swiping right.
You've got someone who is actively interested in what you've got to say and might even be looking for a little more...
Don't waste that opportunity!
If all you're doing is delivering your freebie and saying peace out, your email list isn't going to be nearly as effective as it could be.
This is true for email marketing in general, but especially when you're trying to get more subscribers from Pinterest.
It's possible that this is the first time a user is encountering your content. They land on your freebie landing page, decide to opt-in and... 🦗🦗🦗 *crickets*
Sure, they're on your email list now and you can send them sales emails or your weekly newsletter, but why would they care? You show up hot and pushy in their inbox without even a "hi, hello, what are you looking for here?" and that's a one-way trip to unsubscribe town.
That's where a welcome sequence comes in.
A welcome sequence is ESSENTIAL to introduce new subscribers to you and your brand. Like the name implies, it welcomes a subscriber to your list.
Your welcome sequence's exact structure, contents, and length will vary depending on your goals, how the subscriber opted in, how much introduction your brand needs, etc.
But here's a very basic framework you can follow for your own welcome sequence:
1. Deliver the freebie
Keep it short and sweet, most people are just grabbing the freebie and going.
2. Introduce yourself/your brand
Who are you, why are you qualified to educate about the topic, and what can they expect from you?
This is a good time to give subscribers a heads up that you might be emailing them more frequently now, but your regular cadence is XYZ.
3. Show off your expertise and sell
This email can take a lot of different forms, but by now, your new subscriber is a little bit more primed and ready for a soft sell.
One way of doing this that I love is to link specific resources, both free and paid, that would be relevant to your subscriber on their journey.
4. Say thanks and close out the sequence
I told you we're keeping this framework verrrry basic.
You've given them what they signed up for, introduced yourself, and gave them some options to keep learning. Thank them for joining & reading, remind them how frequently they'll hear from you in the future, and say your goodbyes (for now)!
And with that, you've turned what could've been a simple "wham, bam, thank you for the freebie ma'am" interaction into a lead-nurturing, connection-fostering, automated process.
Oh yeah, did I forget to mention? With most email service providers, you can set up your welcome sequence to be an automated workflow that kicks off whenever someone downloads your freebie.
Efficiency!!!
Creating a welcome sequence can be an intimidating and overwhelming process.
I would know, I'm currently in the middle of updating mine!
And since my expertise is just email-marketing-adjacent, I want to share a few resources from some other talented email experts in my circle...
>> 💻 Welcome Email Sequence Template
>> 💌 Newsletter Storytelling Workshop
>> 📊 Email Marketing Analytics Mini-Course
All of which you can get for just $97, as well as the other 20+ workshops and resources inside The Creative Collaboration!
See, in addition to my past ghosty behavior, another one of my toxic traits is that I can never pass up a good deal.
So getting $3,800 worth of resources I would have (and in some cases already have) purchased anyway for less than a hundred bucks?
💳💥💳💥💳💥
I grabbed the bundle the last time it launched in 2022, and I still use many of those resources today!
Obvi I didn't want you to miss the memo, especially since one of the resources in this jam-packed digital archive is the Pinterest Strategy Masterclass that I normally sell for $97 just on its own.
Looking at the list of contributors for this bundle felt like getting paired up with your besties for a group project, with resources from so many other creators and educators I love and admire, including Sara of BTL Copy, Xanthe of Oh Sierra Creative, Sarah Kleist, Aireanna Elanah, and more!
>> Check out all the details here!
It's available until June 26th, so you've got some time to decide, but if you even think you might want one of the resources inside The Creative Collaboration, it's worth it.
To be completely honest, I'm buying it myself at the very least to grab The Hook Up workshop from Oh Sierra that I've been eyeing! 👀
I know $97 for a $3,800 value sounds like one of those over-inflated, girlbossy, too-good-to-be-true sales tactics, but this is legit. Here's how to get in on it.
ALL BEST FROM YOUR FRIENDLY FORMER GHOST,
Sarah
