Thursday Press #39: daily habits that make me a better entrepreneur
[21 JUL 2022] spoiler alert: they have nothing to do with business!
3 DAILY HABITS I SWEAR BY
After a particularly challenging few months last fall/winter, I kicked off 2022 committed to building a sustainable routine that helped me excel in life and in business.
I'm not about the whole “new year, new me” shtick, but I do love a good self-care, reinvention moment. 7 months in, I wanted to share how things are going
Specifically, the 3 daily habits that help me be a better business owner
Hint: they have nothing to do with business.
1. No scrolling in the morning
This one seems obvious, and phones in bed are the biggest no-no from every wellness influencer out there. But it wasn't until I saw a TikTok explaining how ADHD brains are sabotaged by social media scrolling early in the day to continue chasing an impossible dopamine rush that I was convinced to put. the phone. down.
I will pop a headphone in and press play on a podcast or audiobook as I do my morning routine, but I try to hold off on the mindless Insta/TT scroll until after I've started my work day. I'm less likely to get distracted throughout the day this way!
2. Daily journaling
I'll admit, I was super resistant to this habit, and I still go back and forth on how beneficial it really is to my overall routine, but I'm sticking with it for now. Every night, before I hop into bed, I pull out my journal and recap the day. As an entrepreneur, I find it really easy to lose track of time.
This way, I'm acknowledging each day as it passes, and the habit creates a space for intentional reflection. Even if most days I just jot down a quick high and low from the past 24 hours, I'm still making that space.
3. Moving my body
Every day at 4 p.m., I shut my computer, change into bike shorts, and move my body. It's a non-negotiable and absolutely essential for my mental health. I don't pretend to be a fitness/health expert, but I know that a good sweat sesh improves my mood, stabilizes my energy, and makes for an excellent transition between work and rest.
And honestly? I'm pretty damn proud of myself for keeping up with this habit for 7 months. It's a good reminder that I can accomplish what I set my mind to, which I carry with me throughout my personal and professional life.
All of these habits help me to be a much more organized, happy, balanced human and business owner. If you've been feeling a little chaotic, maybe one of these can help give you a much-needed boost!
& if you have any habits that you absolutely swear by, I'd love to hear them!
