Thursday Press #51: How to prepare for the seasonal Pinterest slump
[20 OCT 2022] hint: it starts with not panicking
I'm not one to typically complain about celebrating holidays “too early.”
I celebrate Christmas with one set of grandparents at Thanksgiving, so the earlier the merrier in my opinion!
But when I walked into Target on the first weekend of October and saw Christmas decor in the dollar spot???
Unacceptable.
Did I still buy a really cute snowman the next weekend? Yes. That's beside the point.
As much as I resent the encroachment on spooky season, there's no denying that the holiday season is well and truly here.
So what does that mean for your Pinterest marketing?
Honestly, more than you might think. Online service providers like you and me don't usually have a lot of hot-button holiday content.
There's no mulled wine recipes, personalized ornament decor, or Thanksgiving crafts to do with your classroom. Although if you have a mulled wine recipe, send it my way please and thanks.
But a large majority of Pinterest is filled with this kind of holiday content, and Pinterest will actually shift its algorithm around this time to prioritize it in the feed.
If you have holiday content, hip hip hooray! 🎉 You'll probably see an uptick in engagement and traffic.
If you don't… well, you might see exactly the opposite. I've already noticed this shift in client accounts, from as early as the middle of August 👀
Talk about being early to the holiday season!!!
I'm letting you know because I know anytime those numbers drop it can tend to induce panic, but you don't need to. If you haven't changed anything significant about your content or pinning strategy, you're likely just in this seasonal slump (yeahhhh, another one).
Stats will start picking up again soon, especially in the new year when everyone's all gung-ho about their goals and building their businesses!
In the meantime, keep doing your thang. And if you're really not sure if you're doing it right, that's exactly what my account audit service is for.
