Thursday Press #52: Why I started doing the hokey pokey in my office
[28 OCT 2022] Lifestyle Edition Vol. 008
Good morning everyone! Today's the day! The sun is shining, it's the end of October, it's time to grab some clearance candy—[gasp]
IT'S THE END OF OCTOBER
Someone please explain to me 1) how yet another month has passed by and 2) how I'm supposed to wake up to my alarm when it's still dark outside.
All that aside, as you're reading this I'm zipping up my bags to spend a weekend in Asheville for all things autumnal and spooky. ahem, this is also my formal call for any last-minute recs!
Before I hit the road, here are some recommendations for you as well – all my favorite things from the past month!
Favorite Follow: I've never been more appreciative of my people than these past few months. Between celebrating and commiserating, I'm surrounded by talented and supportive service providers. Perhaps none the more so than my old Foundations cohort. For that reason, this section's going to be a little bit longer than usual as I introduce y'all. If you're looking for support in any of these areas, these ladies have you covered!

Favorite Show: Too many things to watch, not enough time! I feel like there's a new show out every week that begs for my attention, but the one that was short & sweet and absolutely perfect was Derry Girls. I've been waiting for Season 3 for what feels like forever and blew through it in a weekend. If you haven't watched the show, it's a must-see. Equal parts laugh-out-loud hilarious and sweetly sentimental.
Favorite Desk Tunes: Is October just the month of media? Two STUNNERS of albums came out this month and they've both been taking turns on repeat. Obviously, the new TS album had to make the list, as did Noah Kahan's first album, which continues to absolutely wreck me.
Favorite Self Care Activity: Have you ever noticed that animals will often shake when they're scared? My dog would do this during thunderstorms. It's their natural way of releasing the adrenaline and completing the stress cycle.
Turns out as adult humans, we tend to suppress that instinct, which leads to a build-up of stress and eventually burnout. This concept is explored most popularly by Drs. Emily and Amelia Nagoski. There are a bunch of articles you can read about it, but here are some of my favorite ways to complete the stress cycle:
Shaking it out (literally. I'll stand up and shake my whole body to reset mid-day or after a call)
Going on a walk
Deep breathing
Curious? Here's a podcast episode from Brené Brown that goes more in-depth.
Favorite Coffee Order: I made this apple crisp syrup for my coffee and it's an instant hit!
And of course, here's this month's favorite cat picture:
As much as I love sharing my favorite things from the month, what do you say we make this more of a two-way street, huh?
I'd love it if you'd reply and tell me your fave song from Midnights or what show I need to move to my priority watch list!
