Thursday Press #59: 🎣 How to reel in the Pinterest traffic
[15 DEC 2022] What to do when you're not getting clicks
Some families hunt, some families cook, some families run 10ks on holidays…
My family fishes.
For as long as I can remember, my papa and uncle have been obsessed with fishing. Every weekend and day off is a chance to hit the water.
And although I joined them on a fair few excursions, I haven't retained much of that knowledge.
What I do remember, though, is the variety and complexity of different kinds of lures and baits.
Because the thing about fishing is that if you want to actually catch any fish, you've got to hook ‘em and reel ‘em in. 🎣
Pinterest is kinda the same that way, First name / friend…
If you're not getting the traffic you expected from Pinterest, it's time to take a look at your digital tackle box.
For most business owners, “success” on Pinterest looks like getting more ideal clients into their funnel, which starts sending them from Pinterest to your website.
When it comes to driving traffic on Pinterest, you have to give your audience a reason to click. 👆
You're asking users to spend their precious time choosing your content over the hundreds of others they're scrolling past, and then you're asking them to read a blog post or sign up for your email list?
It better be worth it.
There are lots of different ways to communicate that reason to Pinterest users.

Use calls to action on your pin graphics and make them stand out! 85% of people use Pinterest on mobile devices, meaning those images are going to be even smaller.
If you're promoting a digital product or freebie, show it off! A mockup is a clear visual indicator to users that there's something for them on the other end of the pin.
THROUGH YOUR COPY…
Are your pin titles and descriptions actually interesting? Or are they just the title of your blog post? Think about how you can reframe the subject in a way that will entice users to click to read more
Don't forget calls to action in the description, too! Sometimes people just want to be told what to do, even if that's “read more”
Really try to put yourself in your target audience's shoes and think what would make you click on a pin? That's how you'll keep reeling in the traffic like this guy:

If you made it to the end of this, I'm curious — are you more of a Turkey Trot family or a Christmas morning mimosas crowd?
We're a mimosa family over here. 🥂 Tip: swap the OJ for cranberry juice (or peppermint schnapps) for a festive twist!
