Thursday Press #64: did a robot write this email?
[19 JAN 2023] no, but it can write your pin descriptions...
This isn't the email I meant to write.
Well, it kinda is, but I had this whole idea to get ChatGPT to write this little intro.
Buuuut… the website was over capacity.
So you're stuck with me instead.
AI writing tools have been a hot topic online for a while.
From “Will AI generators replace my job?" to certain TikToks suggesting you charge clients for AI-written blog posts.
I think it goes without saying, but don't do this. It's icky.
And until now, I've been firmly in the camp of “AI is bad, unoriginal, and sounds weird”
What changed, you ask?
✨ Tailwind Ghostwriter ✨
This new feature in my favorite Pinterest scheduler will generate pin descriptions for pretty much anything you throw at it. And they're really good.
HERE'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN ACTION
The ghostwriting feature is available in the new version of the Tailwind publisher. Here's the simple step by step:
Upload your pin graphic, and click “Ghostwrite for me” in the top right corner
From there, select what kind of content you're posting about, and it will automatically pull the meta title of the linked content
You can also change this to whatever you want. I recommend experimenting to see how it changes the outputted description!
Then, add a few keywords you want to make sure the generator includes
Tailwind recommends 1-3 keywords (or phrases) and I'd stick there, but you can technically add as many as you like.
I usually don't add a specific call to action in the ghostwriter, so the next step is to click “Generate Descriptions” and let it work its magic!
You'll get 1-3 variations of pin descriptions, and you can either copy and paste as is, or make a few tweaks.
Here are two of the ones generated in the example above:

Are you shocked? I was shocked.
Neither one is perfect — I like to get a few more keywords in there than just the few I highlighted — but they're really freakin' good.
SO… WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
1. Nothing replaces real human voice
Not in blogs, copy, voiceovers, or pin descriptions. Be wary of the generator's tendency to pull from other top-ranking pin descriptions and include inaccurate details about your content.
2. You still have to do your keyword research
Tailwind's Ghostwriter is only as good as the info you feed it. That means you still need to know what keywords are best to use when crafting your descriptions.
3. You still need a foundational content strategy behind your Pinterest marketing
Building from last week's email, you can't just “post everything” and expect it to bring in the best results. Having an AI pin description generator doesn't change that.
Truthfully, I can probably write a description (or three) in the same time it takes to generate one.
But if I'm stuck on new ways to say the same thing or my creative tank is running low, this generator is a total lifesaver.
And of course, it's a game-changer for all the Pinterest DIYers out there!
The ghostwriting feature is available on all Tailwind plans — even the free one! — so give it a try and let me know what you think!
Between you and me, pal, I'm curious to see if there are any topics/keywords it struggles with… 👀
P.S. I tried using Tailwind's AI to write this subject line, and the suggestion it gave me was:
“🤖 AI-generated Pin Descriptions: 🤔 Don't Try to Understand Them 😂”
So um… AI still has a long way to come. And don't listen to Tailwind. Do try to understand AI-generated pin descriptions. Just read the email 😉
