Thursday Press #7: The support staff your Pinterest needs
[28 OCT 2021] Last opportunity to lock in the beta pricing!
This weekend, we're headed off to the North Carolina mountains for a friend's wedding and I am once more donning the role of “bridesmaid support." My partner and several of our friends are bridesmaids, so I'm packing up my curling wand, makeup brushes, and emergency kit to make sure the day goes on without a hitch.
As a little girl, I used to dream about perfectly organized cabinets and guest rooms that looked more like a fully stocked luxury hotel, so this title of mom friend, support staff, what have you, is one I wear proudly.
And if you've ever known such a friend, you know how much of a blessing they are in crucial moments.
I promise, I'm not just hyping up my organizational skills, because while I suppose you could call Pinterest managers your Pinterest mom friends, today I want to introduce you to your real Pinterest support staff – the one who makes your marketing funnel werk – email marketing.
If I could give one tip to every service provider looking to grow their business on Pinterest, it would be to start building and nurturing your email list, like, yesterday.
There is incredible potential to grow an audience on Pinterest, but once you send them off the app, you need a way to capture those users, especially if you want to one day read their super-enthusiastic inquiry and book them as a client!
Email lists that provide value and back up that value with consistent, fun, informative nudges in the inbox with a dash of sales strategy are one of the easiest ways to turn Pinterest growth from a vanity metric into a cash cow. Wanna know how?
Let's take a look at the journey of a Pinterest user to client. We'll call her Susie.
Susie wants to grow her small business's Instagram account, so she searches for tips on Pinterest.
🔍 The search results pull up your blog post. Susie has no clue who you are, but this blog is giving her ALLLL the tea. She taps on over and while scrolling, comes across your super-enticing freebie offer. A whole month of content ideas that she doesn't have to spend hours on creating herself? SCORE. 💪 That's definitely worth handing over her email.
💌 Over several days and weeks, Susie learns more and more about Instagram marketing from your welcome sequence and weekly newsletter. She feels connected to you because of a mutual love of iced chai lattes and true crime podcasts.
Maybe it's within those first few weeks or maybe it's a few months later, but Susie is tired of trying to manage her business and her social media, and the first person that comes to mind when she decides to outsource is YOU.
& just like that, you've taken a total stranger from Pinterest into a new client, just by keeping up with your Pinterest marketing and weekly emails. Now imagine how many Susies are out there! (hint: out of the 450+ million monthly Pinterest users, there are a lot of Susies)
TL;DR: If you're posting on Pinterest to a bunch of crickets, it's time to give email marketing a try. It's the support staff your Pinterest marketing strategy needs.
If you're ready to give email marketing a try, here are some of my favorite resources and email experts to guide you on your path:
Not sure which email marketing platform to go with? If you've been in any Facebook groups, you've probably seen a comment section (or a dozen) discussing the merits of Mailchimp, MailerLite, ConvertKit, etc… and you're almost certainly familiar with the near ubiquitous Flodesk.
Home to gorgeous templates like the ones you've been getting from me, Flodesk is my one true love when it comes to email marketing, and they just keep getting better.
Which platform you use will definitely depend on your business, what integrations and tools you need, and your budget, but here are a few of the pros that drew me to Flodesk:
Flat rate price – pay the same amount no matter how many subscribers you have
Easy + beautiful templates – you don't have to be a design whiz to whip up an email that looks good
Custom forms + workflows
If you haven't already signed up for Flodesk but are considering it, I'd recommend jumping in on the beta price while you can! Sign up before November 2 to lock in your rate of $19/month!
