Thursday Press #82: what I'm loving and (re)learning in May
[26 MAY 2023] Lifestyle Editions Vol. 015
Serious question, bestie, did May even happen?
I'm sitting here racking my brain for what even went down this month and I'll be honest… I'm stumped.
This month seems to have passed in the blink of an eye and now I'm left as speechless as when the dentist asks me a question when he knows FULL WELL my mouth is full of his hands and sharp pointy tools.
Despite that, I've scrounged up a few things that I've loved this month that I hope you will, too!
WHAT I'M LEARNING
Something I've been (re)learning is how important rest and space is.
I went hard in the paint in April. Honestly, I've been going pretty non-stop since January (website launch, digital product launch, new freebie…)
And in May, I think my mind and body took over to bring everything to a (much-needed) screeching halt.
If you'd dropped a bucket into my creativity well, you would've pulled up a bunch of mud and leaves instead of the fresh, cool water of inspiration.
Instead of beating myself up about it and forcing out half-assed, sub-par content, I leaned in. I created low-effort reels that still shared important info or messages, and just focused on the bare minimum to keep up the momentum.
After a lil come-to-Jesus moment with my therapist, I've also learned a new productivity/task management “hack” that's responsible for me writing this email a full FOUR DAYS in advance
should I save this for a full email? probably. Are you getting it anyway? you bet your sweet bippy!
Basically, I have no concept of time or how long it will take me to do something, and I inevitably always pack my daily to-do list impossibly full.
which leads to me not checking off everything, struggling to prioritize, and not getting enough done (+ the shame spiral that follows)
Now, I pick two tasks per day. And I write them BIG in my planner so I can't sneak in other little tasks.
If I get those done, fabulous. If I do more than that, throw a freakin party!!
WHAT I'M LOVING
Favorite Book: I didn't finish any books this month that I feel are worth recommending, so instead I'll offer up a pre-beach read rec that the impending summer has me begging to reread — Elin Hilderbrand's The Hotel Nantucket. I'm nearly positive I've recommended this before, but it's just so good!
If you're a Hilderstan (I'm making that a thing don't fight me), pleeeaaaase tell me what to read next by her. There are so many, I can't figure out where to start!
Favorite Desk Tunes: May saw me revisiting some of my fave albums of the past, as well as Ed Sheeran's new release. Confession time: I have an unreasonable love for his Divide album that cannot be tamed no matter how cringey that man may be.
These choices might say something about me. I'm not sure what, but I am sure I don't want to know.
Favorite Self-Care Activity: Wouldn't ya know, I've got a whole blog post all about this!
Well, kinda.
Since May is Mental Health Awareness month, I wanted to share a little bit about my experience as a business owner with ADHD and how I manage that + my mental health in general.
In the blog, you'll find 5 different “self-care” strategies I use to help my brain function better.
& if you're looking for something a little more personal/sentimental, you can check this IG post from yesterday.
Favorite Posts: ICYMI, here are 2 of my favorite Instagram posts from May!
These are also great examples of the kinda content I've been rocking this month.
Favorite Coffee Order: I've been on a journey to reduce my dairy intake (😒) so I've been vibing with an iced vanilla oat milk latte lately. Still tryna find my favorite coffee shop swaps though. If you're a Starbucks reg, what do you recommend?
And of course, here's this month's favorite cat pictures:
Despite the look on his face, Griffin loves being carried like this, I swear. We're one impulse shopping spree away from getting a baby wrap for him…
Whew, we made it! Another month down and now we're headed into a long weekend (if you're in the US). I, for one, can't wait!
